My son and I shared a bottle of nicely aged imperial stout while playing cards this evening. Fine way to close out the week. 2013 The Abyss from @deschutesbrewery.bsky.social

For context, here is the hydrograph. Today’s flow was a typical winter day at 2,800 CFS. The peak was 56,000 CFS.

One more: this big Western Red Cedar trunk was not here the last time I fished this run. Obviously carried here by the flood and nearly completely scoured. It smelled amazing.

And now some photos that I just thought were cool. Always find something cool to see in a winter forest.

On the terrace above the flood plain you can see sediment left behind from the flooding.

Went to the Sandy river to see what it looks like after the flood a few weeks back. Massive changes to some of the channels. The first photo is today, lots of sand deposits. Second & third photo shows same location in 2023, but there is a channel next to the slope.

Nothing beats Tommy Siegel’s “Extremely Accurate Birds.” I keep this one as a favorite on my film roll.

Not fishable at all. Heck, my D-loop is in the willows at 15' in a lot of runs.

Spray for daily clean up, the paste for big messes. We are on our second induction, will never go back.

If there is someone in your life that likes volcanoes (or even just a bit of whimsy) this is an excellent idea for the holidays. My Loowit tissue box is here on my desk.
