An Englishman abroad. Bookish. Pale and interesting, as my mother used to say. Vienna, Austria. He/him 🏳️‍🌈
Big storm last evening has given way to clear skies this morning over Vienna.

In a previous life I used to work for Southampton City Art Gallery. It was a lovely time and I worked with some of the most wonderful people. Superb neoclassical architecture and outstanding art collection.
Southampton Civic Centre was built in four stages during the 1930s. The foundation stone was laid by the Duke of York (later King George VI) in July 1930. The south wing, containing the council offices, were opened by the Duke of York in November 1932.

I remember doing a few bonkers things at art college, but none quite as hare-brained as this. Hilarious.
Experience: ‘I was hospitalised after being trapped in a full-body plaster cast’
It was torture. It took six people to carry me to an ambulance

Oh! They’ve mown the meadow grasses, and in doing so the red clover is no more. They usually mow every other strip so they can still tend the vines, but leave the remainder for the wildlife.

Hello, my name is Frank and I'm a lettering nerd. Type, print, letter carving, and anywhere that good letters can be found. I like good letters and good letter spacing.

I've said it before and sadly it still stands, not all Roman letter(space)ing is good letter(space)ing.

The finale of my State Opera season. Le Nozze di Figaro was a sheer delight, with stunning costumes and sets. And for once no one died!

A walk past the Austrian parliament building where a nonchalant Athena avoided my gaze.

I found the soil has been turned at the foot of the vines this morning. Presumably to limit the competition from the meadow grasses.

My woodland trail has come alive in the last couple of weeks. So many beautiful flowers. The violets did especially well, but have now been lost to the taller plants.

Titanic at Southampton on 4 April 1912, six days before her maiden voyage. This photograph was taken on this day 113 years ago. She had arrived from Belfast in the early hours of the morning and is dressed with signal flags to celebrate the first visit to her home port.

They’ve trimmed the vines back to two stems, and won’t be long before the first shoots appear now that the weather’s turned.
