Not without controversy, Australia Day is like a combination of our 4th of July with our Columbus Day. Still, it's one of the two countries that I've called home, and I'll always have a soft spot for our mates down under. Happy Australia Day.

I paid precious little attention to the inauguration today. And that's the blueprint for the future. Be aware but be selective in what you engage. Save the energy for the battles that matter and ignore the juvenile antics from Trump or his supporters.

Bob Uecker nearly always made me laugh when I watched or heard him. He never made me want to cry until today. Rest in peace, sir. A life well lived. Baseball and the world is a lesser place without him in it.

Yep. What can you do? Stay engaged in your communities. The fine arts are a wonderful place to start. Art, literature, music, film. Expand your minds and don't give in to the garbage culture.
Everything is dumb and terrible, and it's gonna be dumb and terrible for a while. It’s important to do what you can to make it less dumb and terrible, and it's important to find a way make some contentment for yourself in spite of everything being dumb and terrible.

As we watch the horrible fires in California, at the same time we watch the funeral of the man who gave us FEMA. President Carter was ahead of his time.

President Carter’s funeral was touching, funny, and I feel like we got to know both the President and the man a little better. May he rest in peace and may we remember him fondly. He gave us so much more than we give him credit for.
