I think the thing that is gonna get us out of this is Margaret Killjoy’s advice: deescalate all conflict not with the enemy. This seems straightforwardly good to me:

Look man, it’s an impossible counterfactual. But what happened happened, and it sucked. The war-happy media ravaged the administration’s failings to absurdity, but just because they were wrong doesn’t make Biden right, and refusing to name their failings makes them more likely to repeat them.
