For as long as he’s been famous, journalists have accused him of racism, believing that convincing people will lower his popularity, ignoring the fact that it never does.

His racism, performative or otherwise, is part of his appeal.

Lambeth council have always been like this: set up ALMOs under labour before, increasing costs for all concerned, adding to the well paid bureaucrats and limiting accountability.
