Evolution 2025 was super well organized. And I could meet a lot of people working on similar topics and those researchers we only see on papers (lol). I still hope it’ll get easier to attend to people from other countries and institutions. But I hope I’ll be in Cleveland in 2026. 😎

So I confirmed with my Uni: they would support me. Luckily, I got a registration waiver. Then, I scheduled my visa appointment, planned my trip, added to it some museums that I wanted to visit (and get data), and flew to the US. And I don’t regret! It was great!

Ngl, I was a bit concerned because most of the conferences are developed by Global North people to Global North people. To be very honest, I still think it’s a bit unfair, but this is how it is and for now, unfortunately, I can’t change it.

In 2024 it was confirmed: I earned the ESKAS fellowship to be a visiting scholar in Switzerland. It would be much easier to get a visa, but to the Evolution 2025.

Everything started in 2023, when I started planning attending to the Evolution 2024 in Montreal. However, I was doing my PhD in Colombia and
1- Getting a visa to Canada or the US in Colombia is a real struggle.
2- We not always have money in the Global South to attend to these conferences.
