First, they don't just magically get good taste. But also, their designs meet codes -- from how flammable curtains can be to how wide a passage is, where to place signs. Basically trying to minimize the carnage in an emergency.

This is funny if you don't know what an interior designer does. A better analogy would be if a movie reviewer began each review by saying he was a director. Obnoxious, sure, but relevant and unusual expertise. Certainly compared to some Bluesky bro who dishes about Marvel movies.

A serious softball player will keep a ball in their glove when storing it to maintain a loose pocket. They will not use the game bat at the batting cage, bc the density of the dummy balls can deaden a bat.

It's from a paper estimating mood as a weighted function of certain reward (CR), expected value (EV) and reward prediction error (RPE). Basically your mood depends a lot on RPE - going up when you receive more than expected, and down with receiving less than expected.
