After a whole thread of dubstep expertise i had to balance it out with some noobiness foe another genre (ive probably only ever listened to <20 uptempo tracks lol)
October 28, 2025 at 5:05 AM
nor at home (except as a joke)..we need someone truly unafraid and committed to experimentation
October 28, 2025 at 5:02 AM
That's the only time so far I've seen it intentionally attempted...producers who're already knowledgeable as hell probably find it really tough to regress their skills in a way that sounds realistic. Many are also just unwilling to put their name on something that doesnt bang, neither at the club
October 28, 2025 at 5:01 AM
There was a tweet i saw once where someone actually managed to make a really accurate pastiche of the "awkward amateur 2011 dubstep" sound, I'll have to find it for you tomorrow since I currently have a productivity blocker engaged for twitter lol
October 28, 2025 at 4:54 AM
Holy shit this is crazy lol. I love the tiny fakeout at the beginning of the drop where they're very briefly normal distinct hardcore kicks before going hyper-uptempo mode

Benga too. Method Man, thst supergroup made up of Benga and Skream and Artwork, literally entirely this kind of dubstep. In fact I think they literally made a song called Anthemic lol.

Oh yes and also Skream and skrillex were literally homies
October 28, 2025 at 4:39 AM
midrange synths like earlier tearout, but the songs were composed like pop music (and usually featured vocalists) and all this melodrama and maximalism -- i call it "anthemic dubstep' and like you said it was almost equally as far removed from the classic sound as Skrillex haha
October 28, 2025 at 4:38 AM
Oh yeah, Skream is the one of the funniest ones that people back then would characterize as one of the like, antithesis of the American brostep wave, even though dude made literally so much music like this around 2009 - 2011. Not quite brostep or even tearout -- it was aggressive and full of

Leotrix at Forbidden Kingdom 2022 (which I attended) playing his set in a building constructed on the festival grounds specifically meant to resemble a dingy warehouse where indie raves happen lol
October 28, 2025 at 4:31 AM
But then also because of this development where festival mainstage producers began making brosteppy riddim, the original sound also started getting way more popular appreciation leading to the latted guys also being booked at big festivals, which has resulted in funny shit like
October 28, 2025 at 4:30 AM
try and remedy this to varying success
October 28, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Yeah they coalesced so much to the extent that eventually "riddim" could refer to what Subtronics and SVDDEN DEATH were making, or what Subfiltronik and Infekt were making. Which is hilariously an exact repeat of what happened with the term "dubstep", complete with the term "briddim" being coined to
October 28, 2025 at 4:26 AM
Contrast it with something like Subfiltronik - Passout released a few months after it
