Mom, chicken keeper, composter, science lover, ex trauma therapist, obsessively attempting to provide bird and pollinator habitats. Northeastern Coastal Zone 6b/7a.
Grateful to have found a positive space to learn, stretch my views and exchange ideas.
I let a lot of burn weed (native) grow despite how ugly it appeared. Some of it is 10' tall. Now it's fairyland, and the pollinators love it.

Here's mine. It's so exciting when they bloom! I love how they pop open.

We did it last November. Clay lined, stone over barley straw around the edges, filled with rain and well water. Couldn't find decent information anywhere so we did our best. Crystal clear, teeming with life (tadpoles, frogs, water bugs), attracts wildlife. Better than meditation.

I don't dig anything, very lazy. A few bales of straw work wonders. No work and by next spring you can just move aside the top layer and plant. Here are a few pics of my process. Dog not required.

You will see it. Here are some of mine from today. The deer come every night and a fox frequents it.

Two views. Still muddy from a huge downpour. Clay has to remain moist around the edges, which is a real trick.

These are all Cal-Maine. Lots of animal cruelty violations, too.

Here are their main brands. They've been cited several times for animal cruelty.

Here's part of what I did to quickly expand capabilities. You end up with the most gorgeous soil when they fully decompose and never had to dig.

babies! first time I've tried burlap for the beginning phase and it's fabulous. underneath is a large pee pad. (This isn't their actual box. I took the pic while I was changing out the bigger one that has radiant heaters.)

Indoor greenhouse, not quite 2 months after planting the seeds. This is insane! Only thing that hasn't exceeded expectations are the peas, probably too warm for them. 🌱#organicgardening

Indoor greenhouse at 7 weeks. Cherry tomatoes on the plants! Harvesting lettuce, herbs and chard most days. 🌱#organicgardening

First salad.

Week 5 indoor greenhouse. I need to harvest, thin and pinch back. I can't believe this is working so well, and it smells so dreamy when I mess around in there because of the herbs. 🌱

Really, I can stop anytime. It takes the edge off, but it doesn't impact my work in any way. 🌱🌱#organicgardening

These are the most wonderful pole beans for our climate. They tolerate cool spells so I can plant them earlier. I have 'raced' them against 6 other varieties (planted on opposite sides of arbor) and they come out far ahead every time. And they taste great.

Yes, tomatoes in the height of summer are the best. 🍅 But what I'm dreaming of today are the beans we grow. There is nothing like these special varieties like dragon's tongue and rampicante when they are fresh. 🌱 #organicgardening

Encouragement for anyone who's starting. It took 3 years for me to get any of the milkweed going, but then this happened. These are my pics, from my garden, attached to chard and under a windowsill. 🌱🦋#organicgardening

There's a pea! And more flowers. And more pea plants coming up! 🌱#organicgardening

I dug one before the freeze set in and can't wait to see how things move along in the spring. What size is yours and what's the liner? Mine now and how it looked before the temperature dropped.

Starting my day with happy thoughts of walking around out there in the heat of summer. Miracles abound. 🌱#organicgardening
