My book includes a story about St. Thorlak of Iceland, and one about St. Gerald of Aurillac. Both men showed traits of behavior and personality suggesting that they were quite likely #autistic. Tylenol and food dyes didn't create #autistic folks. We have always been here.

Books 📚 for #DisabilityPrideMonth! That God's Works Might Be Revealed (by me!) is a collection of short stories exploring sickness and disability through the lives of saints. The Light from a Thousand Wounds (by Corey Hatfield) is a memoir of one family's experience of disability. Read them both!

I just read a review of this book, and now I want to spend an afternoon with the author, Mary Dunn, and talk about our books. Mary is a historian of religion. Her sickness and her child's disability, led her to explore stories about sickness and disability from a different era. #booksky

Hey, y'all! In July, why not mark the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the celebration of Disability Pride Month by making "That God's Works Might Be Revealed" the next book for your book club? #booksky #DisabilityPride

I also love that, in this image, she's holding what appears to be a Gospel book. Although there is no historical evidence that she had her own Gospel book, in the version of her story that I told in That God's Works Might Be Revealed, she has one. (4/4)

St. Hervé's feast day is today, June 17. In religious art, he is often shown with a wolf. The stories of St. Hervé tell us that a wolf was his companion for a great many years. If you want to know how that happened, you'll find the story in my book, "That God's Works Might Be Revealed." (6/6)

Some people say this is the worst year ever, and I understand why. Some people suggest it was 2016, or 1929, or 1865. St. Hervé might have said that 536 was the worst year, and the beginning of the worst period humanity had ever seen.

In 536, Hervé was about 15 years old. (1/6)

O heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of Truth,
Who art in all places and fillest all things,
Treasury of blessings and Giver of life,
Come and abide in us,
Cleanse us from every impurity and save our souls O Good One!

I'm not sure why icons of the saints nearly always show their bodies as being free of any marks of injury or disability, even when the saint was known to have a significant disability. There are exceptions, of course. St Luke the Surgeon is sometimes shown wearing glasses. His feast day is June 11.

I don't know why the thumbnail is black. Here's the image that goes with the post.

Have you read "That God's Works Might Be Revealed" yet? It's a collection of short stories about saints, sickness, and disability. Some of the saints (St. John the Little, St. Nicholas of Myra) you probably already know, and some of them might be new to you.

Here's the first review of "That God's Works Might Be Revealed"! It is such a joy to get a review that captures so clearly what you were trying to do when you wrote the book.

That God's Works Might Be Revealed. It's a collection of 14 short stories about saints, sickness, and disability. The stories range from 4th century Egypt to 11th century Iceland to 20th century Siberia, and lots of places and times in between.

Here's my book. 14 short stories about saints, sickness, and disability. And joy. One of the saints in it, St. Thorak of Iceland, was very likely autistic. Like me. Like my publisher. #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticJoy

I love this idea! Is there a reason to wait for the Democrats to do it? It seems like all you'd need would be a URL, one or two people who know how to design and build the site, a few researchers (retired journalists? out of work academics?), and maybe an editor. Am I missing something?

I don't usually care much for allegories, but I love this Lenten fable for little ones! In the story, Rigid Rooster wants to make everyone follow all the rules, all the time. Capers the Cat can't be bothered. Henry Hamster is too sick for Lent, so Charity the Churchmouse looks after him. 1/2

I don't carry a handbag, haven't for years, but it has occurred to me that perhaps I should start carrying one again.
