Same gas, different colors. It's all argon gas, but the outer ring also has a small amount of mercury in the tubes, which shifts the color to blue as it vaporizes. "Regeneration", 2023 16" x16"

And art piece made using found objects. The frame is 4 times longer than it is wide, and the objects are mounted to a wood panel inside the frame. At the top spells out, 'I can walk under ladders', the words stacked above each other forming a triangular shape. Beneath the words is a wishbone. Beneath that is a leather star. Underneath the star is a vintage bisque doll holding out a coin that reads 'good luck'. The doll is placed inside an upturned, old rusty horseshoe. Below the horseshoe is an old skeleton key. Finally underneath everything is a clipping from an old newspaper which reads' Good luck appeals to everyone'.

Testing testing 1..2..3...I got the Pinksky app and this is my first post. Not sure if it also pops up on my Bluesky account, so this post will help me find out! Here is some neon I made that hangs in my kitchen window. Groovy man.

Spark! An artwork from last year, that I hope brings a smile to your face.
This is an art piece by Eve Hoyt. It has 6 swirl shaped neon tubes arranged like flower petals around a center that is a vintage, plastic doll baby face, which glows pink from the neon tubes. The colors of the neon are purple, magenta and pink. The size of the entire piece is 13" x 13".

It has been about 3 weeks since I deleted my Facebook account, I have to say that I do not miss it at all. And have been spending less time on my other socials too. I highly recommend it! Anyway, here's a fun little thing I made last week. Read the alt text for descriptive details.
Found object art piece using a vintage, walnut wood tissue box cover. I cut out phrases from a 1975 issue of the tabloid magazine National Enquirer and put them together to say "Years of Suffering... it's so easy anyone can do it!" and attached them to the front of the tissue box. The opening of the box has an almond shape, resembling the outline of an eye, and inside of it I put a convex mirror for the 'pupil', which when gazed into, puts the viewer as the largest point of focus. Not shown in the photo is the secret message "Time To Awaken", which can't be seen until the viewer gets close enough to peek inside the box.

Here is a fun (and a little bit creepy) piece I made in 2012. I created devil horns using 8mm clear tubing and filled them with neon gas. I attached the horns to this vintage dummy head, and mounted the whole thing inside an antique frame. His name is Devil Dan. Ain't he handsome?

The head looks similar to the Charlie McCarthy puppet from the 1920's. It's mouth is open slightly to show his teeth. He has red gems in his eyes, and devil horns on top of his head made out red neon lights.

Thought I would post another part of the process in neon making. This tube is getting ready to be cleaned on the inside while a vacuum pump removes all the impurities, and then filled with gas. A process known as bombarding. I'm having fun writing out alt text for images. It really gets me thinking!
This is a neon tube bent into the shape of an eye. It is made up of 3 colors: 2 different blues and ruby red. It isn't lit. This is before the bombarding process, which is when the tube gets heated up and a vacuum pump removes all air and the impurities, before it gets filled with noble gas (argon in this case) The picture shows the neon tube on the table with high voltage alligator clips attached to each electrode and pieces of mica placed between certain sections of the glass to prevent electricity from arcing through and creating a hole during the bombaring process.

Trying my hand at writing alt text for my image. It is fitting that I chose this piece as it was purchased by a gentleman who is legally blind. He contacted me about buying an art piece and after describing to him what I had available, he chose this one.
This is a neon light sculpture, consisting of two colors. It has an orange, spring-shaped tube with a magenta section running through the center. The neon is mounted inside of a vintage, frosted glass light shade. The glow of the neon tube illuminates the light shade. The entire thing is mounted to a small, black base. I named it "moonflower" because it resembles a flower, similar to a hibiscus. The entire sculpture is 18" high.

Here is a David Bowie inspired artwork I made recently. The collage is made from vintage sheet music and LIFE magazines. I filled the star with krypton gas and it's running on a beading transformer, which gives the star a cool effect.
