But it can be tricky in the beginning! You’re meant to have the bar being the fish. The bar gets bigger the more you fish. Oh and there is a board outside of Pierre’s shop which is next to the hospital where you can see the villagers bdays and check for quests. I recommend looking at the wiki 4 help

There’s a wiki for it with lots of helpful information about things like the villagers loved, liked, neutral and disliked gifts, where to find certain fish and what time you can fish them oh by the way I encourage you to purchase the training rod from Willy on the beach. Fishing gets easier later on
