I keep thinking about Philip Roth’s book The Plot Against America in which Charles Lindbergh - who is known to have been a Nazi sympathizer - nearly gets elected President of the US in the 1930s. It’s a while since I read the book but in the end he doesn’t win. I remember how unnerving that book was

We are supposed to have freedom of thought, speech, and association in this country so as long as someone isn’t committing violence they legally aren’t supposed to be arrested. Everyone even people who are not citizens have these rights #freeromaysaozturk

As someone who moved to the USA as a child I’ve always had an idea that American patriotism is a bit odd. At 9 years old I remember thinking we didn’t have to salute our flag every morning in my old country but we still liked our country
