Grace Hospital opened on October 2, 1927 at Heather and 26th Avenue in Vancouver. It had 50-beds and bassinets. The new Grace Hospital opened in April 1982, and four years later, the old hospital had morphed into "Grace Estate" a two-level, 40-suite condo building

Today is #WorldMaritimeDay and a great excuse to remember the #EmpressofIreland, the CPR liner that sank in 1914 and claimed four more passenger lives than the Titanic. There were 75 passengers onboard from BC - only 10 returned #shipwreck #beneathdarkwaters

Lord Byng Secondary turned 100 this year, which is quite a feat considering most Vancouver buildings are lucky to make it to their 25th. The school is on W16th in Point Grey, and the photo was likely taken in 1925

Angus McIntyre took the first photo from Choklit Park at W 7th and Spruce St in 1974. He took the second photo at the same spot in 2011. The CPR yards are visible and the foreground is clearly ready for development.

Taking the bus to the PNE this weekend? Angus McIntyre is on the back of a Brill trolley maneuvering around a detour to the PNE in 1974. He tells me they'd do this while travelling at speeds of up to 30 km/hr.

In 1957 the PNE prize home (which is still in Burnaby) at 1,444 sq ft, was 1.5 times the size of a normal house. It was a single-storey early Rancher and it was less than half the size of this year's prize home which comes with a library and a whiskey tasting room evelazarus.com/the-pne-priz...

In 2020 Sébastien Hudon bought a film at an online auction in England sight unseen. It turned out to be a newsreel missing since 1914. It had images of two Empress of Ireland survivors from Silverton, BC and it led Seb on a quest to find the story behind a broken ring evelazarus.com/the-story-of...

The Sky Glider was introduced to the PNE in 1970 and was a crowd favourite for 15 years. It carried passengers in gondola chairs in a 7-minute, one-way trip. If you're wondering where it went, it's at Mount Seymour - it's been the Brockton Chair since 1988 evelazarus.com/ten-things-y...
