Thrilled to be heading to Paris next year to lead the roundtable “Future Directions for Haitian and Dominican Studies” at the aptly themed #LASA2026 congress “Republic and Revolution”. My daughter’s birthdays are joyous yet always tainted with a hint of sadness. 5 years ago today we were both close to leaving this world. The trauma, in the midst of the pandemic shortly after escaping my violent abuser, transformed our lives. Together, we have built a beautiful life & a happy home.

Digital identity is integral to the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It began with providing the income poor with a legal identity (i.e. birth certificate) and has morphed into an international effort to identify every living person on the planet. This is not just about the UK - it’s GLOBAL.

📣 I’ve been promoted to lecturer at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. It took a long time to get to this point but I did manage to produce a book and a small human along the way. Not bad going for five years of hard graft. Here’s to a brighter future for us both 🥂 #singlemammasrock

I just coordinated and survived my first family holiday in over 35 years. Our youngest traveller was 4, eldest 82-years-old. 10 of us in total. A thankless, tireless task requiring endless patience, optimism, resilience and enthusiasm. But we made it. Just about. 🤣

Casually perusing the fantastic @ials.bsky.social library today when I unexpectedly came across a copy of my book on display! Written with a Foreword by the one and only Junot Díaz, I’m very touched that people are still reading/citing. #legalidentity #digitalidentity #statelessness #citizenship

I’m not sure that anything in life prepares for the emotional journey that is your child’s last day of nursery before starting school. So proud of how far we’ve come.

I've had a great experience taking part in the South East Action Learning (SEAL) Programme. It was inspiring to spend time with a group of strong, determined, driven and ambitious women leaders working across academia. Highly recommended.

One of the loveliest aspects of working in academia is having the opportunity to explore new surroundings and visit different campuses worldwide. Today’s walk around the University of Kent certainly did not disappoint.
