No mention that it’s the old media companies who push this misinformation onto their audiences…

Hope they don’t see my critical (but fair and balanced) test drive review of the Seal from last year… (from carnewschina.com)

This car has been plugged in to a charger I’m near today since I got here at 8. It’s now nearly 1.

Impolite, or maybe the car is broken/the plug can’t be removed?

Tesla sales data for May in AU shows a sales rebound driven completely by pent-up demand for the new Model Y.

Worryingly, Model 3 sales remain tiny, suggesting that once the new model effect wears off on Y, Tesla remains in trouble.

Tesla bounces back with highest Australian sales in nearly 12 months
The updated Model Y has driven a resurgence in Tesla sales after months in decline – recording close to 4000 hand-overs in May.

Today in the comments section I learned they’re taking the electrification of the G Class quite well.

Anyway time for this car’s two-yearly major service…

If you still want to do ICE, then own it. Get something with at least six cylinders and a manual gearbox that runs on petrol and do it properly.

It’s laughable to see people who own diesels defend ICE. The tractor engine isn’t worth basing your personality around.
June 2, 2025 at 2:01 AM
I’ve supported hybrids as a “batter than nothing” technology and a pathway to wean people off ICE. The perfect is the enemy of the good and so on.

But they truly are pathetic as cars. Still slow, still noisy, still beholden to the fossil fuel sellers.

Pretty good result. Turns out changing policies can change behaviour. But it also helps that London has a well developed public transport system.

The cheapest EV currently on carsales.com.au - which is not bad for the price.

Yeah, about ten years.

This is a Geely EX5 but it could be anything.

It’s not very interesting. That doesn’t matter to people who buy this sort of car.

But it should terrify carmakers building similarly boring ICE SUVs whose customers are starting to look around. Game’s nearly over.

BYD to assume full control of its Australian operations. Suggests the brand is very confident of a strong future here.

First commenter: right on
Second commenter…sigh…it was a Ford Ecosport, a petrol car. At least the replies called them out.

Just processing the casually racist undertone here. There are no Aussie cars anymore so your beloved “Aussie favourites” come from overseas anyway.

China is Australia’s biggest export destination, and they buy twice as much from us as we do from them. Twice.
May 24, 2025 at 12:08 AM
I can understand the argument that an ICE with a manual gearbox is more engaging than an EV, because at least you are managing the power delivery yourself. (Because the ICE requires such management, lacking bandwidth)

But almost all modern cars are automatics.

This is a very good looking car indeed, the Xiaomi YU7. Definite Purosangue vibes but unlike that embarrassing brand diversion, I’d actually drive this one. Damn.

There’s a theme to all the reviews of the Renault 5: “car people” love them in a way they haven’t loved other EVs.

I really hope they bring it here.

That Taycan is stalking me now…saw it again today, side on…I think I’m in love 🥰
Walked out of a cafe today (because I’m bourgeois) and saw one of these, in this colour, at roughly this angle and damn it looked good.

So here’s the cheapest one for sale right now in AU.

I don’t really care if people think they’re being force fed EVs. We ban lots of things that people like. How do you feel about selling cigarettes to children, should we open that back up?

I’m all for new EVs but I’m a bit unsure why you’d buy this instead of the better looking, true-to-the-original Renault 5?
