❌ WOODEN SPOON

Our anti-award for 2025 is the weaponisation of violence against women to promote racist, anti-migrant agendas.

Thank you to @selmataha8.bsky.social @sbsisters.bsky.social for speaking about this issue tonight.

We urge journalists to expose and reject this whenever it arises.

🎉 This year EVAW turns 20! To mark this milestone, we made a zine documenting our history and incredible achievements over two decades. Rooted in the rebellious, DIY spirit of protest, zines have a long history of being used as a tool for campaigning and inspiring change.

An online world where women and girls are safe and free to express themselves is better for everyone.

We urge tech companies to take this guidance seriously and implement its recommendations.

The government CAN and MUST choose to make it mandatory.
November 25, 2025 at 12:57 PM
Ofcom will not report on the progress that has or hasn’t been made as a result of this guidance until summer 2027.

In that time, many thousands more women and girls will experience preventable harm online while we wait for tech platforms to choose whether or not to do this work.
November 25, 2025 at 12:57 PM
With our friends at Glitch, we successfully campaigned for this guidance. Its introduction is a positive step forward for our rights and freedoms online.

However until it is made a mandatory Code of Practice with consequences for non-compliance, tech platforms won't take it seriously.

Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of #16DaysOfActivism

With digital violence this year's theme, we're pleased to see Ofcom's new guidance to protect women and girls online launch today, following our successful campaign 🧵

🚨The government has today announced an appalling roll-back of rights for refugees and people seeking safety in the UK.

These cruel plans will have devastating and life-threatening consequences for women and children, particularly those trapped in abuse.

EVAW's Director Andrea Simon spoke to @skynewsrss.bsky.social about the ban on strangulation in porn.

This is a vital step in recognising the role violent porn plays in shaping attitudes and driving dangerous behaviours, as well as regulating an industry that promotes and profits from VAWG.
