Wow! Wind energy provided more than 80% of Ireland's electricity yesterday.

Ireland has a target to provide 80% of electricity from renewables - wind and solar - across a whole year, by 2030, by growing solar PV, offshore wind, storage and electricity interconnection.
🚨 A very, very rare wind energy equalling 80%+ of demand day yesterday.

This has only ever happened a handful of times, and not since as long ago as late 2022.

We may be seeing the effects of a few large wind farms that opened late last year. We'll have more analysis later today!
Renewable generation and pumped storage equalled 85% of yesterday's electricity demand, with a peak of 99% at 05:30. Fossil fuel generation (mostly gas) equalled 32% of demand. 14% of generation was exported, 0% of demand was met by imports.

...and the line I may quote forever more to anyone who says climate reporting is too doomy:
"The problem is that the problem is so big that to even describe it factually sounds like scaremongering"
