What if a possible explanation for Trump’s position on Russia this term is to have a new Nixon moment or Reagan-Gorbachev one where he signs a deal with Russia. These are the leaders he remembers and looks most often to emulate in all sorts of ways.

Remember when he made a big deal of trying to reproduce a ‘Nixon goes to China’ moment with his visit to Singapore to meet with Kim Jong Un. (Of course that didn’t work out because it was all for show with no hard work or diplomatic substance).
