Today was my last day at the Barbara Bates Center at UPenn’s School of Nursing. Great experience, wonderful help from the archivists! Tomorrow I’ll be in the archive at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia!

At the Museum of the American Revolution, the temporary flag exhibit has a flag from the Massachusetts Militia, the same militia, though different regiment, in which my 6th great grandfather Captain Benjamin Barnes served.

Today, I started my first research trip since publishing my book. I was awarded the Karen Buhler-Wilkerson fellowship by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing archives, the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing.

Then we went with a rod of Asclepius but the snake is constricted by bits of barbed wire from the WF. The symbol was inspired by a quote from Ellen La Motte’s book, in which she writes, “was it not all a dead-end occupation, nursing back to health men to be patched up and returned to the trenches…?”
