To a degree. The Great Gatsby would have probably been forgotten if it wasn't sent out as a paperback to soldiers in the war. So much of the classics are luck and marketing.

It's losing 100-1000 grams per second and came from interstellar space... is this thing massive? Or is it only losing mass when close to a star?

People aren't aware of the millions of engineering solutions in place to make the current system function. Changing that system introduces new problems, sure, but nothing that engineers can't overcome. And the result is a much better world. I can't wait until my city isn't so loud from ICEs.

I think you're onto something there. I found an interactive version of the graph, and the below-zero starts in the same month as AEMO (July 2009). It's a bit odd that 'Export' is a category on the graph, but doesn't seem to be used.
