My Argentine friends can’t figure out why anyone in the US would drink mate from a can (left). Last night I spotted some canned Yerba Mate on the shelves in Argentina (right).

The mid century gods have smiled upon me. I just found two of these chairs for sale on the side of the road for about $20 each. I’ll be getting the reupholstered, but I am not in hurry. They’re working great as is.

Yes, specifically consistent letter-spacing. Without ligatures the letterforms would collide when spaced properly. It goes back to lead type, when fonts had single sorts cut w the ligature and it was used in stead of two separate sorts.
