I like recording quotes from books I read, especially if they’re moving or a fact I want to remember. This one though, it gut punches me every time I open my quotes page in my notebook. The tragedy of begging people to care about an animal that seems so insignificant, but means the world to you.

A bright red net-winged beetle with black legs, antennae and a black patch on the top of the thorax, perched on a white bumpy wall. Lycostomis similis An Amblypigid (arachnid) sitting on a mud wall. There is a small sprig of green plant in front of it. Possibly a Phrynichus sp. A small colourful crab held by my hand. He has bright orange claws, pale purple legs, pale green eyes and a mottled carapace. Male. Species ID unconfirmed at this stage. Close-up of a true katydid, likely from the Tribe Leptotettigini, although ID is unconfirmed. She is looking at the camera, perched on a stick.

Fun Fact: we have native bees that sleep in the petals of one of our plants in the garden bed (Alogyne) 🥰 It’s actually too cute I can’t handle it lmao

Also started my new internship and I'm having SO much fun, it's an incredible company I've landed in and I'm so grateful that I was picked :') Have some bugs from my second day!
Jovial Jumping Spider (Apricia jovialis) on car door leather. Tortoise Beetle (Paropsis sp.) on the palm of my hand. Largest Paropsis I've seen yet! Moth larva, no idea on species lol. I looked down in the work car and it was crawling across my arm.

I caught the little wasp mid-flight, and surprisingly fairly in focus too!!

A large Oudemansiella gigaspora mushroom amongst the lead litter. I kept this photo dark because I kind of like it like that!

A male Flower Wasp (Thynnidae) perched on a gum leaf with the smaller, flightless female attached at the abdomen tip as is common for copulation within the family.
