True. I’ve seen some fantastic skill splayed out all over a comic book page, but really had to take some time to put the jigsaw puzzle together in my mind.

I agree. There’s something about that border that helps define the impact of the page as a whole and how those separate images relate to each other and create the rhythm and balance for the page as a whole.
