I'm happy to join up, donate, and watch with PBS Passport today. I found a joyful new cooking competition show "The Great American Recipe"
Definitely I want to try making this dish, Kadoo Borani - a traditional Afghan recipe but made with butternut squash and the addition of berries and walnuts.

High Points of Address: • Pink blazers everywhere on Democratic congresswomen • One has the 14th amendment written on her pink blazer • Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM) held a sign that said "This is not normal" to the camera • He's being booed a LOT and LOUDLY • The Dems are quietly protesting by remaining seated and silent, and it's clearly working as he won't even look at that side of the room or address them • Military officials and the Supreme Court were seated on the same side as the Dems, and also remained silent and seated (though of course their decorum is typically required) • Congressman Green of TEXAS protested so much he was ordered to leave the room (and actually brought Dump's gaze in that direction) • Dems on the floor are holding BOLD and obvious signs that say "False," "Save Medicaid," "PROTECT VETERANS," "LIES," and "Musk Steals" as he speaks • Melania looks as upset at having to be here as she always does and Vance looks like he smells farts • Finally a wide capture of the room: large majority of that room is seated, silent, and not clapping along • Saw a few people walk out with shirts that said "RESIST" • The Muskrat actually wore a suit today, so someone's comment must have gotten to them • Camera panned to Sen. Elizabeth Warren scrolling her phone as he spoke and I thought that was hilarious • Even MAGA applause dwindled a lot with his most controversial statements, including statements on tariffs • He said our days of being ruled by "unelected bureaucrats" were over and everyone pointed at Musk • Someone held a sign to Dump that said "START BY PAYING YOUR OWN TAXES"

Infanticide was a disturbingly common act in the ancient world, but in Sparta this practice was organized and managed by the state. All Spartan infants were brought before a council of inspectors and examined for physical defects, and those who weren’t up to standards were left to die. The ancient historian Plutarch claimed these “ill-born” Spartan babies were tossed into a chasm at the foot of Mount Taygetus, but most historians now dismiss this as a myth. If a Spartan baby was judged to be unfit for its future duty as a soldier, it was most likely abandoned on a nearby hillside. Left alone, the child would either die of exposure or be rescued and adopted by strangers.

Ingredients 100g plain flour 7g baking powder 25g ground almonds 125g butter 28g honey Zest of 1 lemon, finely grated 3 eggs 13g demerara sugar 100g caster sugar 1. Sift the flour, baking powder and ground almonds together. 2. Melt the butter and honey together in a pan, then take off the heat and set aside to cool until tepid. Add the lemon zest to this mix. 3. Use either a food mixer or an electric whisk to beat the eggs and both sugars together until voluminous and glossy. 4. Fold in the cooled butter and honey mixture, then finally fold in the sifted dry ingredients. 5. Put the mixture into the fridge to rest for 24 hours. 6. Preheat the oven to 180C, then liberally butter and lightly flour your (Madeleine) moulds. 7. Remove the mixture from the fridge and beat with a spoon, then spoon into the prepared moulds, just to three-quarters full. 8. Bake in batches for 8-10 minutes until golden and risen to just over the side of each mould. 9. Turn out on to racks to cool. Dust lightly with caster sugar before serving.
