The keynote speech will be given by the historian Marci Shore, entitled: 'Encounters in the borderlands: Translation and the possibilities and impossibilities of understanding in a dystopian world'.

Writers, translators, researchers and editors from across Europe will meet to discuss translation in relation to cultural power, authoritarian politics and artificial intelligence.

But how is this assumption unsettled in an era of culture wars and nationalist revanchisms, of linguistic homogenization and technological hyper-acceleration?

The title of the conference is 'Translating cultures – Cultures of translation'. Taking its lead from Nova Gorica's/Gorizia’s bilingual and bi-national identities, we return to an idea at the core of the Eurozine project: translation as means for the formation of a transnational public sphere.
