Gençlerbirliği beat Karagümrük 3-0. Compared to Istanbul, watching Süperlig in Ankara is great fun, and cheap.

Ticket to east stand 300TL, köfte ekmek + ayran 200 TL, and official scarf 100 TL. Haydi Gençler!

And a brief summary of where Turkey stands now re. EU accession.

Had Turkey released Demirtaş, Kavala et al two weeks ago, perhaps the assessment would look different...

President Erdoğan takes a more civilised approach regarding the Northern Cyprus elections.

And CHP leader Özel is happy to see their kindred party to win.

Toivottavasti tämä virhe on tapahtunut epähuomiossa. Muussa tapauksessa passittaisin toimittajan takaisin kouluun. Kehno virke muutenkin.

Kyseessä siis Ylen uutinen (onko Yle muuten täällä Blueskyssa?) yle.fi/a/74-20185712

One of the most overlooked sights in #Ankara must be the Cenabi Ahmet Paşa mosque in Ulucanlar.

It was completed in 1565, and the architect was Mimar Sinan. This is his only work in Ankara!

It's surrounded by a big park and there's a playground next to it. Definitely worth a visit!

Tällaisia rääpäleitä ne ovat pienenä. Tämä kadulta pelastettu reppana onneksi löysi kodin reilu viikko sitten

I visited the Ulucanlar prison museum today. It accommodated quite some names back in the days: Nazım Hikmet, Bülent Ecevit, Deniz Gezmiş, Taner Akçam, Yılmaz Güney, Necip Fazil Kısakürek etc. Too bad, prisons full of politicians, journalists, artists etc. are not history in Turkey

A mainly CHP crowd, but the usual smaller leftist parties (TİP, EMEP etc.), unions (DİSK, KESK), and other groups (ODTÜ students, doctors, engineers etc) also present. A small DEM/YSP group also just entered. A lot of women of all ages as opposed to Islamist/nationalist gatherings

Ok, had to pop in the CHP rally. Huge crowd and more people are pouring in as I try to leave (not easy to go against the current)

Lazy Sunday, börek, sunshine. I like the area around İncesu in Ankara.

Now I need to decide whether to go to CHP's rally in Tandoğan or watch Finland play for the bronze medals in the EuroBasket. Both start at 17:00.

Oh, and I should add that I had a really nice and reasonably priced lunch in this place. I'd recommend it if you don't mind their neighbour

The daily bus to visit Ani was very convenient. I preferred to explore the ruins by foot, as opposed to the extended golf carts available. And had the chance to see the remains of the bridge Turkey and Armenia have agreed to restore (pending like everything else...)

I recently visited Kars and the nearby ruins of Ani. Surprisingly pleasant small town that would immensely benefit from the opening of the border with Armenia

Rest in peace, Hera.

I went to see the dogs after a (too) long break, and she's missing. Been missing for quite some time.

She was approx 9-10 years old, and always ready to stand up for the pack. A sweet, gentle giant.

I lost my own dog last year, and now this. I miss you, my companions.

This week, Turkey's Sunni directorate, Diyanet, worries about people's choices on how to spend their holidays.

Nothing about fraud or being dishonest. Not a word about corruption or nepotism.

I didn't know Turkey's Sunni Islamic "state church", Diyanet, publishes the Friday sermons in English.

I suggest you read the latest sermon attacking "immodest" clothing/style/fashion and people's freedom of choice without questioning their morality.

In an era of constant social media surveillance and the resulting (unjust) court cases in Turkey, the walls of Ankara are gaining new prominence as places to pass messages. I expect cameras to be installed in this underpass in the near future

Visited for the first time the grave of Alparslan Türkeş. Surprisingly modest and quiet place.
Also popped in the Gençlerbirliği training ground ahead of the coming Süper Lig season.

Also saw this beautiful "prayer rug". The priest said the text is Georgian, but wasn't quite sure. I can't really tell

Visited some time ago the Adalar after too many years. Lovely place once you get away from the crowds at the pier.
And my first visit to the defunct Halki seminary.
