The structure is a monomer; all three domains are visible: leucine-rich repeat domain (LRD), hinge region (HR) and transmembrane domain (TMD). The structure is in cartoon representation, with the disulphide bonds and glycosylation sites in ball-and-stick representation, with oxygen in red, nitrogen in blue and sulphur in yellow. The glycans (shown in purple) are away from the concave surface of the TSHR-ECD, which interacts with TSHR autoantibodies. A new report by Ferdy S van Geest et al. describes a novel 8‑base‑pair duplication in THRB (c.1305_1312dup; (p.R438Lfs445X)) identified in a mosaic pattern in a patient with severe thyroid hormone β (RTHβ), resulting in a distinctive developmental & thyrotoxic phenotype.

Latest research by Virginia Cappagli et al. assesses the prevalence of multifocality in MTC & aims to provide proof of concept that lobectomy can be safely performed.

Their findings support the more conservative surgical option for certain patients with sporadic MTC.
