I was a very little kid when I saw Superman. Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor marked perhaps the first time I actually understood what the hell the grown-ups meant when they said someone was a good actor. Is this, or is this not, one of the greatest re-interpretations of an iconic character of all time?

I made fun of this show but it was part of my reluctant entry into adulthood. I was close to their age and newly in NY. I had Rachel's inability to do anything practical, Monica's anxiety, and Chandler's insecure nihilism. Without Friends my generation would not be able to contextualise a life event
