We then travelled south to the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) in Pozo Izquierdo. There, we explored several other forward-looking initiatives in the field of marine energy.

The focus is on strengthening partnerships to accelerate the Caribbean’s energy transition through initiatives like #GlobalGateway, promoting sustainable development via ocean-based energy solutions.

The visit  – organised by Expertise France under the Euroclima programme- introduces the Caribbean country delegations to innovative ocean-based renewable energy technologies, including OTEC, wave energy, floating solar PV, and floating wind projects.

Yesterday, the European Union — through its Delegation in Barbados — visited PLOCAN in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, alongside delegations from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and The Bahamas, CCREEE and the OECS Commission.

Through the EU-funded Zero Waste initiative, in partnership with UNEP, GIZ, AFD and Caribbean partners, we’re backing circular solutions — better for communities, better for the planet.
