somehow had the most boring class and the most fun class ive had in this degree this semester. both were relatively lightweight/theory-light it all kinda balanced out. i rest

also idk if this is obvious but you can request a spotify user data dump just to like. Have. it’s ez. & full of useful info like artist lists, listen frequency, i think playlists data?, even search history iirc. i actually need to do this again soon if i’m exiting my current backup is old lol

like the idea here is “have the names in the collection, and then the platform or format can come later, or in many forms”. i’ve become very interested in this approach.

once i have free time i’ll probably get more into this. i have some ideas. some plans.

note: i’ve largely migrated off spotify atp. it hasn’t been that challenging….kind of. but atm it’s still one streaming service for another. i’m not sure i’m inherently bothered by that, as long as the Essence of the thing is confidently in my hands (as .json or .m3u or XML files or WHATEVER idc)

so all that to say, i’m having a great time w indexing as an intentional curation/capture activity. and i’m in a space to record that first, access is another matter once i feel i can move around

i see a lot of talk about “owning music” and i understand that whole thing, but i’m not immediately in a space to be fucking around w that or physical media rn AND it misses some really important association & organizational info for me (eg when discovered/‘eras’)
