I think a lot of people are completely missing the point in the concept of faith. Religion does not abide by the scientific method, and it's not the job of science to prove or disprove religion. Gervais' rhetoric is either disingenuous or misinformed, imo.

If the existence of God could be proven, he/she/they/it wouldn’t be God. You’re right that most Christians don’t adhere to the original teachings of Christ. Churches are social institutions and societies change.

I think he’s the only one there who makes sense: either one is a believer or one is not. There is no “proving”. Dawkins attempts to “disprove”, which is no less futile and ridiculous.

This is absolutely true. But then again, anyone requiring “proof” of the existence of God is not a believer anyway. God “exists” beyond human knowledge.
