Just a dude who loves Minnesota Sports: Vikings / Twins / Timberwolves / Lynx.
Smart by the Wolves to move the screens higher against a blitz. Gives the short roll more space. Pelicans recover well but Naz gets an open 3 (and passes it off inexplicably). Julius nails a buzzer-beating 3.

Another blitz, drive into the paint, kick out to create an open 3.

Ant drawing another double in the post, and making the same play. They wont cash every time, but its the right play.

There's a reason the Wolves scored so easily last night.

Ant blitzed, takes them into the paint. Kick, swing, open 3 for one of the best 3 point shooters in the NBA.

Effective, simple, unselfish and unforced offense.
March 23, 2025 at 12:56 AM
Ant blitzed again, hits Rudy on the short roll again. Nice work by Rudy to find the open player and create a shifted defense for Naz to attack.
March 23, 2025 at 12:56 AM
The short roll play showing up again. Pelicans committed to the blitz, Ant committed to making the right play. Gets Rudy a trip to the line.
March 23, 2025 at 12:55 AM
Ant took a double into the paint and kicked it out for a wide open 3 through a hockey assist.
March 23, 2025 at 12:55 AM
Ant is blitzed on the screen and immediately passes to the short roll. This will be a common theme all night.
March 23, 2025 at 12:54 AM
It's so fun to see the influences from teammates in Ant's bag. Here, Ant draws a double in the post and immediately kicks it out. A clear Julius Randle influence.
March 23, 2025 at 12:54 AM
Just a rough sequence from Ant.

Comes off an action and draws KAT, with OG tagging Rudy. Julius spaces back to the corner, he should get that ball. Nice play from Mikal to swipe at that but he's gotta see this earlier.

Transition play is made, but nearly another turnover due to slow reads.

Rudy ball watching again. No reason to be. Maybe his worst game.

This can happen to Rudy when he doesn't get touches offensively. The Wolves ignored Rudy's lob threat tonight, not challenging Towns, who is routinely challenged in that. Rudy's energy requires a small investment at times.
December 20, 2024 at 3:59 PM
Again. Come out of an initial action, and the entire team is standing here watching Ant dribble. The whole point of this offense is to flow from action to action. You can't do that if you stand around and watch pullups after a single screen.
December 20, 2024 at 3:54 PM
Julius 1 on 1 in the post and mostly a good look, but the key here is to look at everyone else.

You can't be stuck ball watching in the Finch offense. Structure doesn't fix this problem either, because this is a late clock scenario.

Finch needs constant movement. Instead, standing around.

Good hustle from Donte and Mike to contest the transition opportunity.

Both Rob and Rudy get caught ball watching and they don't finish the play as a result.
December 20, 2024 at 3:43 PM
Good intentions collide to make a bad play.

Rob's cut is a good idea, but poorly timed. Jaden's drive is a good idea, but because of Rob's cut, and Rudy not being a shooting threat, there's 3 in the paint.
December 20, 2024 at 3:41 PM
Transition opportunity, but Rob rushes it and fires up a middy. Low percentage shot leading to more points for the Knicks.
December 20, 2024 at 3:37 PM
To those calling for more Jaden/Rudy PnR, this is the issue. There is no conflict with the 5, because Towns doesn't respect Jaden's shooting. So Rudy's roll is killed, and Jaden forces a step-back.

Rest of the team is ball watching, standing around. Finch's offense demands constant motion.
December 20, 2024 at 3:32 PM
Dillingham ignores the action being run with Jaden/NAW/Rudy, which kills the flow of the play. Decides to go and score. Towns floats over, leading to Rudy wide open for a lob. Dillingham isn't aware of the action, he panics.

Patience is something this kid will learn eventually.
December 20, 2024 at 3:27 PM
You'd think Rudy would be aware of the Towns trail 3. Caught ball watching in transition.
December 20, 2024 at 3:19 PM
Rob only half-commits to a box out, hoping to get out and run. Result is that McBride comes in and steals a rebound, leading to an and-1.

Rob's 19, these are learning moments. But to those who think playing Rob is the solution? I implore you to look at the tape.

Despite belief to the contrary, the Timberwolves gave up that big lead without Julius on the court.

Donte had 3 perfectly good options here.

- Finish against one of the worst drop defenders in the league
- Throw a lob to Rudy who has a step
- Kick the ball to Jaden in the corner

This? Man.

Here's his other made 3. Again, that release just seems quicker and more confident than his corner shots.
