Ditto. An indelible part of my childhood that's still a lot of fun.

It is only capitalism that suggests that musicians rival others; corporations that make money off the idea “You should buy our Artist©️, because theirs is bad, smelly, and no good.” We are a collective; ours is to grow, support, and learn from each other.

So yes, support your fellow musicians!

Oh! A big one! I long ago accepted, and EMBRACED, that my audience was mostly other musicians.

There are SO MANY of us... and we're all obsessive about music, so why not embrace them?

Those 50k other artists releasing songs on any given day? That's not your competition -- it's your audience!

Sometimes I just post requests/calls to action: "Could I get 5 people to listen to a song or two off my new album today?" which works okay. People like to help!

Doesn't hurt if you have a reputation as someone who'll return the favor...

I haven't done it for a while but I sometimes have posted asking for feedback: "Here's my song about blah blah, could I get a few people to listen and tell me if it does THING well?" or the like. I have also done "listen for listen" things -- I will check out your track, you check out mine.

If one description drives a lot of traffic, I reuse it! At least a few times, maybe more.

If not, I try it again once or twice before discarding it. Sometimes things hit harder the second time.

I post daily, usually about my latest release but I do mix in other recent releases. I NEVER post a simple "Please listen!" with a link. I find that basically does not work at all.

Instead, I try to come up with an interesting, hooky way to describe the music. I rotate these out over time.

RIAA = Recording Industry Association of America, i.e. big-name commercial artists.
