A sketched comic for Make a Terrible Comic Day 2025 featuring me and my cats, explaining their different sorts of Meows. Panel 1: I'm standing in a blank panel, gesturing to my derpy looking cats next to me, saying "My Cats Meow Settings" Panel 2: "The Clarinet" My black cat, Inkling, stands and happily stares at the camera with huge cartoon eyes. The speech bubble coming from her only has a drawing of a clarinet making a single note Panel 3: "The Squawk" My grey tabby cat, Cipher, sits facing to the side, she's drawn with an open, pacman-like mouth and all sharp angles. Her speech is also jauntily angular and features an open-mouthed bird with two exclamation points. Panel 4: "The Yowl" Inkling is shown in profile, head back, mouth open, fangs sticking out of her maw next to a spikey speech bubble with the word 'yowl' drawn in jenky sketchy lines overlapping each other unevenly. There's an arrow pointing below the frame of the panel labeled "Empty Food Bowl" because this cat believes she has never been fed in her life. Panel 5: "a!" Cipher lays on the ground, staring up at the camera with big baby eyes while she tucks her front paws adorably in front of her chest. There's a large speech bubble that takes up most of the rest of the panel. Very small and in the center of the bubble is a lowercase a and exclamation point. So much effort, so little sound. Panel 6 is small and squished to the side, labeled with an ellipses and featuring Inkling looking at the camera shiftily, her head tilted back as if she's preparing for some evil. Panel 7: "The Pacer Beep." Inkling's form has become noodly and squiggly as she's opened her mouth into a big, narrow O, head still tilted back. Across the width of the panel and breaking out of it is an extended "BEEEEEEP". Behind the beep and the cat is the opening script used in the Pacer Test.

It's hard to know what to say or whether it's even worth adding to the doom - what I will say is buy your trans friends' weird zine, their album, their art game - buy them a beer or a soda or a meal - give them some ko-fi money for doing absolutely nothing. We gotta protect trans kids and adults.

Although the Nazi genocide of Jews during World War II is well known, the concurrent Nazi genocide of psychiatric patients is much less widely known. An attempt was made to estimate the number of individuals with schizophrenia who were sterilized and murdered by the Nazis and to assess the effect on the subsequent prevalence and incidence of this disease. It is estimated that between 220,000 and 269,500 individuals with schizophrenia were sterilized or killed. This total represents between 73% and 100% of all individuals with schizophrenia living in Germany between 1939 and 1945. Postwar studies of the prevalence of schizophrenia in Germany reported low rates, as expected. However, postwar rates of the incidence of schizophrenia in Germany were unexpectedly high. The Nazi genocide of psychiatric patients was the greatest criminal act in the history of psychiatry. It was also based on what are now known to be erroneous genetic theories and had no apparent long-term effect on the subsequent incidence of schizophrenia. Once in power, the Nazi regime enacted eugenics into law. On July 14, 1933, the Nazi governments passed the Law for the Prevention of Offspring with Hereditary Diseases. This legislation affected individuals “suffering” from any of the following nine medical conditions: feeblemindedness, schizophrenia, manic depression disorder, genetic epilepsy, Huntington’s chorea (a fatal form of dementia), genetic blindness, genetic deafness, severe physical deformity, and chronic alcoholism.

Calvin delightedly exclaims 'wow, it really snowed las night! Isn't it wonderful?'. Hobbes follows up with 'Everything familiar has disappeared! The world looks brand-new!' -- A new year... a fresh, clean start!' adds Calvin. As they look over the landscape, Hobbes observes 'it's like having a big white sheet of paper to draw on!' -- 'A day full of possibilities!' Calvin affirms. They get ready on their sledge and Calvin tells his friend 'it's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy... let's go exploring!', and the pair sledges off into the wintery landscape.
