Aurora over Illinois on September 7, 2017 during a G4 solar storm as the largest solar flare in 9 years impacts. The next day I was on a flight to Miami, FL to intercept a major hurricane for the first time.

10 years ago, Northern #illinois experienced an exceptionally photogenic #snowstorm. 8 to 10+ inches of heavy wet snow fell. By the next morning, these were the scenes we were left with.

The #aurora out over Selfoss, #Iceland on February 28, 2025. Unfortunately I came down with a severe case of influenza A this trip and snow/blizzard like conditions were the rule for the rest of the week. Only saw the aurora twice

The following evening, last Wednesday, the aurora made an encore appearance, however was not nearly as spectacular due to cloud cover.

Some shots of the recent aurora borealis displays. Tuesday night was by far the brightest and most vibrant with displays lasting most of the evening into overnight. Wednesday brought clouds, but another substorm during evening gave us a nice brief display. All shot on Sony A7IV with 20mm F/1.8 lens
