My personal views, not that of my employer.
Eh, I am not so sure. Trump was propelled into office on a populist affordability message, as was Mamdani, and Trump is in a bit of a slump politically. Attaching himself to Mamdani on the issue of affordability and reducing major crime is a no-loss play.

The good ol’ “it’s not technically against the rules!”

If you are actively trying to conceal it or are embarrassed it has now come to light, perhaps you should not be doing it.

While I do not personally agree with conversion therapy, the ban is a mistake and infringement. The first ammendment covers speech that is reprehensible, vile, and vulgar. However, the government has no business censoring speech, especially legitimately held religious beliefs.

Minnesota got a “B” from Gifford for their gun control laws and is ranked 14th in the nation for their gun control laws by Everytown.

Two wrongs don’t make a right. I am glad to see Colorado stay out of this absurd fight by using an independent redistricting commission.

We should be restricting the legislature and executive branch from pulling these kinds of shenanigans with stronger constitutional protections.

Good article about all the changes, not just sugary drinks:

In Colorado, food stamps will no longer buy soda, sugary drinks
The state has plans to expand food assistance benefits to farmers markets, restaurants and for hot grocery food

If you want to eat junk food, perhaps the government shouldn’t pay for it? On the other hand, I am happy to see the removal of the hot grocery food restriction, things like rotesserie chicken are easy, tasty, and fairly healthy.

Heller upheld an individual right, far from trampling.

You can amend the constitution, it’s been done before. If you believe the 2nd ammendment should go away, there is a process to do it. However, jamming down a bunch of unconditional legislative rules and executive orders isn’t it.

Specifically:

Some have made the argument, bordering on the frivolous, that only those arms in existence in the 18th century are protected by the Second Amendment. We do not interpret constitutional rights that way.

Most gun deaths are suicides, a number that has increased since the pandemic. The rest are mostly homicides using handguns.

Mass shootings are a vanishingly small number of overall deaths, and “assault rifles” are a even smaller number of fatalities.

What the data says about gun deaths in the U.S.
While the number of gun deaths in the U.S. fell for the second consecutive year in 2023, it remained among the highest annual totals on record.

Training data contamination is rampant. HLE is supposed to have a private list of questions, but I am doubtful.

It’s a part of the the 13th ammendment:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Something something the medium is the message. You’re not going to get nuanced, well developed opinions when the algorithm (and even the format) only allow for the most outraged, easily digestible quips.

The current bill as passed by the house drops the tax to zero. There are over 1.5 million registered suppressors in the USA, and in many places in the world you can just buy one.

The original $200 NFA tax was designed to disenfranchise poor Americans from exercising their right to bear arms.

Obstensibly non-partisan media shouldn’t be picking right and wrong. Present both viewpoints and trust your readers to assess the merits.

Public health tried the “one true science” approach during COVID and produced a generation of skeptics.

Internal Israeli support for the war in Gaza is weakening.

Netanyahu needs a war to avoid prosecution and stave off political challengers, so he declares war on the Iranians in the name of non-proliferation.

I just hope Trump doesn’t pickup on the “start a war and boost poll numbers” stratagem.

Regardless of what you think about the SB3, we’re now in a position where you have to pay an undetermined amount of money to the police so they can opaquely decide whether you can exercise a constitionally protected right.

This kind of hyper-personalized donation begging AB tests well, but I think it has a fairly corrosive effect overall and uniquely targets the mentally infirm.

IMO, the pardon power as outlined in the constitution is in need of serious reform. Biden’s use of the power to pardon (preemptively!) his son was corrupt, Trump’s use of the power to pardon friends and monied acquaintances is corrupt. Future use, with no guard rails, is also likely to be corrupt.
