One of the tropes I hate most is a secret fictional reason for why a real thing happened in history, because it robs people of their autonomy. ‘All historical events were really caused by magic or gods or aliens,’ etc. I’ve put down more than one book that did this.

I find history to be fascinating. My favorite historical event is the French Revolution. Very, very interesting history.
