Wait, there are fully unicellular animals? I know there are parasitic cnidarians that are only a handful of cells in adult stage, but didn't know of any animals who are unicellular throughout their whole lifecycle

Biologist here. The two sexes model is a HUGE oversimplification of human sexual traits, which include several genetic, developmental and hormonal processes that vary from person to person.
Sex is bimodal, not binary: most results fall in two camps, but there is a probability to fall between.
