I just finished Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake. I really enjoyed it! I really liked the story and main cast. The gameplay was also well-balanced. In my opinion, it's the best of the Erdrick trilogy.
Now that I've finished all three, I feel more open to playing the other DQ games.

I just finished the first Dragon Quest. It was meh. Despite playing the HD-2D Remake, it was horribly balanced and meant for a party of more than one character. Maybe I'll replay this version with better strategies someday.

I just finished replaying Pokémon Ultra Sun. I really enjoyed it. I love the art style of Gen 7. While I think the original has a better story, I think this version is good for the story and extra content.

I just finished Dragon Quest III. I went into it with low expectations because I hated DQ4, but to my surprise I enjoyed it. The fact that I played the remake really helped. Some parts of it felt dated like the high encounter rate and low exp gain, but I'd like to replay it for better strategies.

In the beginning it's not very deep, but the script gets better as the game goes on. The first two chapters are quite simple compared to the rest of the game.
