We might get a new country in 2027.

Bougainville is an autonomous region in Papua New Guinea. A referendum was held in 2019 in which 98% of the population voted for independence. The regional government has recommended September 1st, 2027 as the date of independence.

one of the most interesting cases of sovereignty to me is the Sovereign Military Order of Malta

recognized as a non-state sovereign entity as it claims no territory of its own, its headquarters in Rome enjoy extraterritoriality. yet, SMOM maintains diplomatic relations with 113 UN member states

One of the best books I've read on NK.

Most media focuses on Pyongyang and NK's propaganda machine but this provides a glimpse into daily life outside the Hermit Kingdom's capital.

Pitcairn Island is one of the most remote settlements in the world. Most of the British Overseas Territory's 35 inhabitants are descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers.

To visit Pitcairn, you first fly to Tahiti, fly to Mangareva, then board the MV Silver Supporter for a 32-hour journey by boat.

A thread of some of my favorite flags.

Tulsa, OK

The second most-populous city of Oklahoma, Tulsa has the distinction of ranking 1st out 312 US city flags in a survey conducted by the North American Vexillological Association. This flag is one of the few modern flags to have beige in its design.
