The No Kings protests are indeed pretty mainstream. People telling you to manage your risk aren't telling you not to go to protests.

Go to protests! Have fun! (seriously—building community and solidarity is a big part of it).

But be aware of risks and manage them-even mainstream events have them.

They're not being malicious, but they *are* social engineering: by calling it an RSVP, they heavily imply that it's about managing the actual event logistics.

Humans are bad at weighing risk, and terrible at weighing it in comparison to reward.

Also, two things are true:
- you should post like you might have to read it out loud in a deposition,

and:

- people who tell you that you can't have boundaries about your personal info if you have an identifiable online presence are not serious and you shouldn't take them seriously.
