Knitting, data, cats. Librarian in a small town in New Brunswick. (she/they)
@fastenoffyal.bsky.social has officially begun! This team does lots of work to make their event accessible and inclusive. I feel like casting-on All The Things this year.

Time to learn a new thing: the crochet cast-on for a design by @woollywormhead.bsky.social 🧶

Neurodivergent joy.

Latest listen: The Book Eaters by @sunyidean.com - best take on vampires I’ve read in ages. Stubborn queer character written and narrated by neurodivergent people…. I know from the interview that it wasn’t written as neurodivergent representation specifically but it resonated.

My favourite way to knit yellow is in a rainbow, a gradient, or yellow-green. The feeling of light or shifting landscapes.

For #ShowMeYourKnits yellow week, here is a pair of Freddy Beach Socks by @knitsiphappy.bsky.social knit in a one-of-a-kind colour dyed by Lichen and Lace. 🧶

Flourish by Curious Handmade was my May sock project. I knit them in @indigodragonfly.bsky.social Good Trouble Sock. I think these are my first orange socks! Gotta fill in the gaps in my sock rainbow. 🌈 🧶

Dear Fennel reminding me to enjoy a moment outside before getting back to curating a data deposit. How long till she accidentally rolls down the hill?

Today: Local News Matters event filling up the main floor of the RP Bell Library in Sackville, New Brunswick.

#ShowMeYourKnits is Works in Progress: these are the Flourish socks by Curious Handmade in @indigodragonfly.bsky.social Good Trouble Sock. They’re flying off the needles.

#ShowMeYourKnits is DK weight yarn. My favourite sweater these days is a mashup of @oliveknits.bsky.social Beekeeper Cardigan and Amy Herzog’s Foyle Cardigan that I knit in 2018. My yarn is @indigodragonfly.bsky.social Polwarth Silk DK. 🧶 Perfect weird neutral layer for workshops.

Sensory overwhelm travel tip: use the shirts you’ve already worn as pillowcases to reduce the impact of scented laundry detergent. Bonus if your shirts are made of really nice cotton.

Grateful for windows that open and a chorus of spring peepers.

Casting on for Filigree, the first pattern in Helen Stewart’s Light Academia themed Handmade Sock Society. Thoughts on dark academia and light academia and my actual job in a library, which is grayscale….

Maybe: rainbow academia? Light and dark and queerness? Chose bright orange!

April socks: Popped by @hunterhammersen.bsky.social in merino sock dyed by my wife @gobsmackedyarn.bsky.social in Sackville, NB.

Reader, I fell in love with a favourite yarn dyer. Middle-aged queer knitter love story featuring a librarian and a small town. Yep.

LYS week for #ShowMeYourKnits 🧶
April 30, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Election day in Canada! Today my #ShowMeYourKnits post features Canadian wool from my LYS, @gobsmackedyarn.bsky.social in Sackville, New Brunswick.

This yarn was spun at Custom Woolen Mills in AB from fleeces from Linc Farms (now in NS). 🧶

#ShowMeYourKnits is celebrating Local Yarn Stores this week. Mine is Gobsmacked Yarn in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada. 🧶

This shawl is Trypophobia by @xandypeters.bsky.social in a @gobsmackedyarn.bsky.social giant (150 g gradient).

Today, I over-dyed them in Marit’s studio while we unpacked from her latest show. They are green again! Very green. It will be Spring.

Some of my socks were very faded after a few years of heavy wear. One of these pairs started out a fresh minty green. Things fade, it happens sometimes. But my sock drawer was no longer sufficiently green.

In March, I knit rainbows for my feet. I’m really happy with the pools of colour arching across the front of these Lake Ontario Socks by @knitsiphappy.bsky.social. The yarn was dyed by @thirdvaultyarns.com on their Exmoor Sock base. 🧶

Wow, wow, wow. Maybe starting this book at 11:15 on a Thursday night is exactly the way to start brain sparkles. (Though also, my wife says “don’t get too sucked in and stay up all night, ok?”). Unmasking AI: My mission to protect what is human in the world of machines by @poetofcode.bsky.social

This week, #ShowMeYourKnits is socks! I wear handknit socks every day. So much better for me in a sensory way.
These are my latest: Louche by @hunterhammersen.bsky.social in @indigodragonfly.bsky.social yarn. I made these in February for #skyKAL

Learning about research projects on campus is delightful. Today I posted about toenails on the library account for Love Data Week. #LoveData25

First library social media post of the week, advertising talks by data librarians in the region. And this one, by a student and me. I love the poster she made, especially the hat on the mansplaining man. (Session only open to folks who are at either CAAL-CBPA or COPPUL institutions)

Moving into the heel flap (so gorgeous!) of Louche by @hunterhammersen.bsky.social for #SkyKAL My yarn is a beautiful blue by @indigodragonfly.bsky.social on Grey Matter Sock (yak/merino/nylon). I had to interrupt Fennel in her sunbeam to get good light! 🧶 #knitting

It’s blanket weather in the library today. Luckily I have a giant shawl - Scylla by Kim McBrien Evans @indigodragonfly.bsky.social in indigodragonfly and @gobsmackedyarn.bsky.social yarns. More stripes for #ShowMeYourKnits stripe week. Kim is a genius with stripes.
February 4, 2025 at 4:17 PM
I’ve got some dark moody stripes for #ShowMeYourKnits - Radialactive by Kim McBrien Evans @indigodragonfly.bsky.social - a very engaging short row stripe pattern in two weights of yarn. I used Old Maiden Aunt MCN 4 ply and Shetland 2 ply. This shawl makes me feel like a bat in the best way. 🧶

Day in the life of a data librarian: Starts with weekly online migration meeting with a vendor. (Spent some time rowing before I came in to wake up. Mostly managing my tone because I have my sequence knitting.) 🧶: Essence of Autumn.
