Agreed on the recognizable tropes, and how some are enjoyable while others are not. And I too would want the wives to not be perfect should they be featured further.

I did think that Finau's wife should have at least asked him /why/ he wanted them to leave the city and side-eyed her just doing it without question. I feel like I saw too little of Blythe's wife to really make any judgement at this point 🤷

I agree with pretty much everything you said. The only point I differ with is that Finau's and Blythe's wives didn't really bother me, probably because I didn't view them as very important characters 🤷🏻‍♀️
I hope Haas reads the thoughts in the tag and takes these things into account going forward..
