I think the homelessness population is useful for corporate interests as it reminds workers how dependent they are on their job. But maybe I’m too cynical on this.

Always in the garage at home and at work in the bike cage in the parkade. Lucky to have these options

As long as it’s not a slippery layer of paint that becomes a skating rink when it rains

My one hope is that the more noise the US government makes about this, the more sane Albertans will rally to defeat this stupid independence referendum they seem to be dead set yo ram down our throats

And property taxes are still the main talking point every single election. Only this last election it was blanket rezoning cause the NIMBY runs strong in this city.
Which partly explains why our critical infra structure keep failing, decades of messaging to city staff: keep costs and taxes down

Yep, in Calgary (sprawl central, even more so that Edmonton), residential street usually only get cleaned if they happen to be on a bus route. Otherwise you may see the occasional snow plow come through but nothing dependable. 1/

a) it hardly ever snows in The Netherlands and when it does it barely sticks around for more than 12 hours.
b) when we still lived there it was your own responsibility to shovel the sidewalk in front of your home. The same as it is here in Calgary.

It gets especially hairy when you’re bike commuting in the dark in the mornings this time of year. You often don’t see them until the last minute

I’m seeing quite a few big stretches of MUP added across the city. Also along 4th Str NE as well as 14th Str NW north of Nose Hill. But sadly they are often isolated stretches that don’t connect well to existing infrastructure.
