Kaczynskian, green anarchist and permaculturist.
Fish fan, plastics hater.
If the previous hand washing of the issue of overpopulation was already suspicious, George Monbiot also joins Musk and the right wing propaganda of population collapse. Funniest is that, if fighting birth rates is futile according to him, why does he care so much only when they are on the decline?

Noble evil idea:
Start promoting heavily studies that show how microplastics decrease male fertility and how they are tied with declining birth rates and ESPECIALLY inability to keep the pension system going and the housing and stock market always going up.
Immediate ban on plastic from all parties!

This is particularly maddening, as if not only there exists a world where killer drones would be fine, but it is also the most likely one unless bad guys take over.
Bad guys are already the ones in charge and the ones ready to push the red kill everyone else button on the drone armies:

This is why I think China isn't any more benevolent but the same evil with more focus and longer term orientation.
Not only China can decline to pursue this line of industrialization, they could ensure nobody else does with the control they have on world supply. But they cheerfully go ahead instead.

We need to tackle the "non-violence" advocates with full resolve and without doubt. They not only achieve nothing, but are also a hindrance to anyone else wanting to achieve anything.

Even in programming a sizable portion detests AI.
The apologists do not deseve to be get away with the claim they are a majority.

I'm a long time cynic about the Peace & Economics Nobel prizes and the Chemistry one also looks chosen with propaganda in mind. Nothing against the impressive chemistry techniques but the applications are textbook cases of greenwashing (carbon capture, hydrogen, methane vehicle).

A fellow Kaczinskian? This is pretty close and as far as he can publicly say but I'll take the recognition as a very reasonable position.

The most important and worrying issue about AI in the short term which of course media and average writers refuse to even mention:

I knew politics, economics and history were lost causes in Wikipedia but, now that they are also willing to provide cover for millionaire corporations, it means chemistry and biology can't be trusted in the site either. So this leaves math and physics mostly.
More reason to not give them a dime.

The tragedy of the shoemaker who goes out of business by making shoes that last forever disappears when one adheres to natural degradation and integration into the environment.
Eschew harmful preservatives, let products last, fail and "die of natural causes", let them degrade and get another pair.

Wikipedia asking for the average internet user for money is an insult at this point:
IT oligarchs have been the ones abusing their servers (and everyone else's) with their AI data scrapers, keeping all the profit for themselves. If they need money they must only ask them for it.

I had the sinking feeling that Naked Capitalism had succumbed to "Eco"modernism and this settles it.
Founder Yves Smith is so invested into modernism that for her collapse is unfathomable, quickly bringing the civilized versus cavemen false dichotomy.

Economic theories hold the belief that economic activity is inherently good, regardless of what it does.
But at this point is not only the devastating side effects, but the goal itself what is wretched and openly anti-human.
Why would I care for the economy? Why wouldn't I want it dead instead?

There's always the option of storming the presidential home and have the president flee in helicopter and resign in disgrace. No voting booth or congress intermediates needed to exert democracy.
No excuses for americans to allow this to happen.

Yet another solid argument against international trade: it is deliberately anti-worker class.
Pretty good insight by Thomas Fazi (although him writing for Peter Thiel's Compact makes the ultimate motivation suspicious).

We need to dispel the idea of a garden as a piece of a golf course with a a shrub on it and promote it as a piece of wilderness with some grass on it.

This part is essential to understand and keep in mind so, whenever right wingers pretend to be worried about the "population collapse", you know from them it has nothing to do with concern about mankind.

This is the exact (Price per share) × (Number of shares) flawed calculation that I was mentioning the other day. This numbers are even more fake than regular bank money, a baseless extrapolation.
Not getting these oligarchs off the hook, just advising to not overestimate their importance.

With the same certainty that we can agree that technology has improved human lives in the past, we must agree that it will give human lives hell from on now on.
That's all the reasoning one needs to sabotage it: because the future where it continues is the worst one possible.

Andreas Malm makes a pretty good and deserved bashing of this kind of defeatists:

Steve Keen's attempt to teach modern monethary theory to the RW transhumanists behind Trump is akin to giving a martial arts and weapons combat training to aspiring serial killers.
What if they actually learn?

I agree that tackling the issue is hard.
Seeing you seem knowledgeable about UBI, want to ask sincerely to be better informed: which measures can be taken to ensure landlords don't take away all the UBI by adjusting the rent accordingly?
My skepticism comes from Against Landlords from Nick Bano.

These two reflect why subsidies, social benefits and even Universal Basic Income cannot be relied upon and accepted as mission accomplished: as long as the underlying assymetries of power exist, oligarchs can always extract the resources from the people again.
