That he posts Star Wars quotes to his account? They are as stupid as they are racist.

That's Greedo's lines to Han Solo in the orig Star Wars. Adds a surreal quality to their reflexive evil.

I don't think you hate your community. I'm sorry these are the choices you are given. They both kinda suck. It's also true that if your household does not mask, it might be limited benefit to you to do so. I don't have info on that.

I wish I had answers. I wish I had better choices. It is clear to me that allowing fascists to win doesn't chastise Dems, it only makes Dems more fash (in order to win!) plus there is a fascist in office in the meantime. I'm not liking that as a strategy.

If it's any comfort, there is no accomplishment that there won't be people who automatically tear it down. If she had done something non bookish like climbed all the 14ers in the US, they would say she was lying, or was cutting corners and taking risks. Very likely it would be exactly the same ppl.

Yeah, being weird is my 'normal' so it's pretty easy for me. I can understand and feel compassion for the anxiety others feel at standing out, but it was mostly beat out of me long ago.
December 29, 2025 at 3:14 AM
If you need to believe it would be pointless you can. Feeling normal is a thing most ppl need in a 'need it like food' way. If no one in your community masks, you could even be harassed. But masks rated N95 or higher are near 100% effective for the wearer per the science and my years' experience.

I don't care what other people do. But in my part of the country, I usually see one or more others in Costco masking. A lot more if there's an outbreak. I'm really facts based. Covid causes heart and brain damage, along with a laundry list of other bad shit. Not a cold. I'm not interested.

That was true for fabric masks and surgical masks, all that were available at the start of the pandemic. N99, N95 and KN95 filtration masks prevent both. No illness from Disneyland, conventions, planes, crowded theaters. My boss spent his vaca in Paris mostly sick from what he caught on the plane.

I'm so sorry. It makes me sad every time I go to the onc clinic and no one is masking. For them to start masking again, they would have to confront the harm they may have done when they did not. Few will be able to do that.

It bears repeating that pulling yourself up by your own shoes is literally impossible, that was always the point of the idiom. The wealthy have adopted the mockery of their schtick as validation. The privileged don't have to make sense, and get to be casually cruel.

I am sad this happened often enough that it warranted a rule. So gross. People who are trying to convince you that you aren't allowed to have standards... no. There is no good reason for that ever.

Not the risk of infecting sometime else, which I believe is what they were spared worrying about.

I don't think they are programmers. I think might be people who are super excited about the death of expertise.

There are people doing the long, hard, unglamorous work of trying to shift things for the better in male sports cultures, particularly in hockey. It is a disservice to their efforts to pretend that real systemic problems can/have been solved by a six-episode TV show.

The problem is that 80k doesn't look so great when you account for the fact that more than half of that goes for housing now. And rent not buy. Health insurance and running a car can eat a lot of what's left. Then you have to eat. Good luck if you have an accident, etc.
