There's something about the close-ups, that were present before, but now add detail rather than emphasis. It's missing a certain blankness, a spacious clarity. That fact that Lulu has no mouth unless she's speaking is the key.

the errand boy has, perhaps, jerry's most revealing moments. a both brilliant and deeply embarrassing movie; the patsy is like a more purposeful, self-depreciating variation on it.
