Eastern Shore Land Conservancy
@eslc-md.bsky.social
Founded in 1990, ESLC conserves, stewards, and advocates for the unique rural landscape of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, forever a special place of diverse and abundant natural resources and thriving rural communities.
Every spring, ruby-throated hummingbirds fly 1,000 miles from Central America to Maryland to breed, pollinate, and rest in the 67,600+ acres of land that ESLC has helped to protect. Will you support ESLC and help us to conserve even more? www.eslc.org/a-little-goe...

While the worst-case scenario seems to have been adverted ( 100% cuts of all conservation funds for 4 years), the MD legislature is now poised to pass a budget that will cut $100 million from POS, specifically targeting land conservation. Read more: www.eslc.org/md-budget-cu...

DLS recommended the MD General Assembly eliminate POS and Chesapeake and Coastal Bays Trust Fund for 4 years, labeling conservation "discretionary" and "maybe not the highest priority." But this funding is critical. Contact your legislators today. #prioritizeplace #conservemd

POS is under dire threat of being zeroed out as part of a DLS proposal which has recommended the General Assembly eliminate ALL funding for Program Open Space for the next 4 years. This would cripple Rural Legacy, MALPF, and POS. Advocate here: www.eslc.org/urgent-prote...

Check out this beech tree (left) and white oak (right) snuggling side by side at ESLC's Jim and Mary B. Lynch Preserve in Caroline County. At times, tree seedlings more susceptible to cold will grow tucked up to hardier and more mature saplings in order to take advantage of their shelter and warmth.

Was this photo taken in 1768 or 2021? Trick question! Cameras weren't invented til 1816. This shot was taken in 2021 at one of ESLC's Kent County conservation easements. Protected in perpetuity, this vista of farms and meadows (and the Sultana cruising the Chester River) will stay beautiful forever.
