Besides the fact that the Raiders and UNLV also play in Vegas and the CEO of the GP talked about timezone and media market compromises that needed to be made before the inaugural event? I work in an industry very tangential to F1 advertising and had to account for the same factors. Hope it helps.

Yes it is. It was negotiated to be on a Saturday for 2 reasons: 1) to not clash with NFL schedules, and 2) to maximise European viewership.
